Dr. Shinichi Hirokawa, Dr. Shinichi “Shin-san” Hirokawa of Torrance, California, passed away on December 24, 2025, at the age of 62. He was a devoted educator and Assistant Professor at Westcliff University, a singer and master of ceremonies, the lead vocalist of Team Kawachi Ondo, and President of the L.A. Kansai Club. Born in Niigata, Japan, he earned degrees in English Literature, Project Management (MBA), and International Business (DBA). After moving to the United States in 2002, Dr. Hirokawa dedicated himself to education, cultural expression, and community service. Known for performing entirely from memory, he co-founded Team Kawachi Ondo with his partner, Fumio Maruyama (Moo), bringing joy to audiences across Southern California and beyond. Dr. Hirokawa will be remembered for his warm, approachable personality and his commitment to building connections through music, education, and community leadership. Celebration of Life
